Loft Conversion Design & Build Process

Loft Conversion Design & Build Process

With over 50 years of experience delivering some of the most beautiful loft conversion projects, we take pride in putting together the best Essex loft conversion packages. If you select Chelmsford City Loft Conversions to undertake your build, our efficient loft conversion design & build process will take your project through six stages.

1. Loft Survey

One of our expert team will visit you at your address and conduct a free loft survey. We will take all the necessary measurements and discuss your specific requirements with you, and advise on what is the most suitable conversion for your budget and property.

2. Design & Planning

Your free loft survey went well, and the next step of the process will have one of our expert teams generate a series of architectural plans for you. Any structural calculations will be taken into account as well as building control regulations. We will then submit the building plans under permitted development or full planning, whichever is required. For an in depth guide to planning, click here

3. Contract Drawn Up

You have received the design and plans, you wish to proceed. We will then draw up the contract for both parties to sign stipulating that the loft conversion shall be completed to an agreed schedule and price.

4. Party Wall Agreement

A party wall agreement is a legal agreement made between you and your neighbours, regarding any building work occurring that affects either a shared wall, outbuilding, or boundary. If you’re living in a semi-detached or terraced house, you’ll share a wall with your neighbour – the party wall, and you will need one of these agreements. You will need to notify them of your intentions, and their approval will be required.
Party Wall agreements are commonplace in Chelmsford loft builds, so Chelmsford City Loft Conversions has extensive experience of advising on this agreement and will guide you through the whole process.

5. Construction Begins

Your planning or permitted development has been approved, and any required Party Wall Agreements should have been signed. The physical loft construction will commence. Depending on the size and complexity of your project, this can take between 4 to 9 weeks. Throughout the entire process, your dedicated Project Manager will be on hand to keep you up to date on the build, answer any questions you have, and to ensure the loft conversion remains on schedule.

6. Loft Complete

The day you have been waiting for has arrived, and your beautiful new Chelmsford loft conversion is complete. The entire loft conversion design & build process went smoothly and Chelmsford City Loft Conversions will issue you with all the necessary certification which you will need if you ever plan to sell your house.
